CIVIL SOCIETY BUILDING
CECOEDECON believes that partnership with Civil Society Organizations and other networks help to link individuals, groups and organizations of various walks of life and provide greater strength to people working for a Common cause. The idea behind developing Civil Society Building unit was to to facilitate the process of Strengthening the civil society on emerging issues of sustainable development as well their rights in a democratic way and establishes effective dialogue between CSOs and other stakeholders including government institutions, NGOs, media, academicians etc.
Various initiatives have taken off and are pursued by CSOs and CSO networks in Rajasthan. Many are still in a build-up stage and a lot is needed to construct movements that are strong enough to successfully carry out the tasks at hand – protecting the rights of the poor and influencing decisions at high international levels. CECOEDECON’s civil society building programs strives to connect CSOs and social movements who are committed to the fundamental principles of right to livelihoods and climate justice. Our vision is for the sector, as a resilient and independent partner, to play an even more influential role in shaping a stronger sense of society and improving people’s lives.
On the emerging issues such as climate change, GMOs, biodiversity CECOEDECON established strong partnership with Parliamentarians, Policy makers, Media, CSOs, farmers by organizing collective events and programmes like awareness programs, public hearings, state and national level consultations with policy makers and public actors on climate change. At the international level members of legislature participated in the UNFCCC meeting at Copenhagen and Cancun as members of CECOEDECON’s delegation and thereafter they have raised the issue of climate change in their own constituencies.
CSB unit has been actively involved in the process of localizing Sustainable Development Goals through organizing workshops, consultations and meetings with various stakeholders both at state and national level.
One of the major milestones of CSB unit was to develop people’s manifesto and performance review report of the state government in Rajasthan which was highly recognized by both the state government and CSOs.
